Personal Statement:
With more than thirty years of experience in the early childhood field, in a variety of settings, I firmly believe that it is through learning that we have the power to make a difference in the lives of children. I am currently an early childhood instructor at Highland Community College, ITN trainer, Gateways Registry-approved Trainer, and teach numerous workshops and conferences for two Child Care Resource and Referral Agencies. For over twenty-five years, I have also owned and operated Quality Child Care which is a group family child care home. The classes I am certified to teach are the Illinois Early Learning and Development Standards, Family and Community: Partners in Learning, and Welcoming Each and Every Child. While teaching Early Childhood classes is my passion and personally very rewarding, it is of equal importance to my professional vision to create and use innovative teaching techniques. Participants are engaged throughout my trainings experiencing small group discussions, power point presentations, DVDs, guest speakers, brainstorming, minimal lecture, and role playing. All of these techniques are implemented with knowledge of adult learning styles. I acknowledge the wealth of experience that my participants possess, treating them as equals in experience and knowledge and allow them to express their opinions freely during the training.
