Personal Statement:Marilyn has been in child care for more than 25 years, as an owner, director, and teacher. In addition to teaching zero to twelve year olds at the center, she has also substituted in local junior high and high schools, and taught at the community college level in the early childhood department. Marilyn received her Bachelors of Science from Southern Illinois University-Carbondale and her Masters from National-Louis University, Wheeling, Illinois. Since 2009, she has been employed by John A. Logan College- Child Care Resource and Referral Agency as the Infant Toddler Child Care Specialist. She has served as a Professional Development Advisor through Gateways to Opportunities since 2007. Marilyn trains the Early childhood Developmental Screening as well as the four Infant Modules from the Program for Infant and Toddler Care which includes the following topics: • Guidance and Discipline with Infants and Toddlers in Group Care • Understanding Children’s Behavior: Supporting their Individual Needs • Temperament • Social-Emotional Milestones, Responsive Caregiving, and Small Groups • Exploring Primary Caregiving and Continuity of Care • Environments for Group Care • More Than Just Routine • Making it Happen: Individualized Care and Small Groups • Brain Development in Infancy and How to Stimulate It • Discoveries of Infancy • Specail Needs • Language and Communication • Harmonizing Cultural Diversity for Sensitive Infant Care • Responding to Families in Culturally Sensitive Ways • Protective Urges • Acknowledge, Ask, Adapt
