Personal Statement:
Renee M. Detloff has experience with Montessori education as a parent, teacher, and school leader. She has served as head of school for Villa Montessori School for over 25 years and director of the Montessori Heartland Teacher Education Center (MHTEC) since 2005. MHTEC was created when Villa Montessori School?s leadership team realized that sharing the Montessori philosophy with other adults would ultimately allow more children to experience Montessori education. Renee?s goal is to train adults who wish to be respectful and responsive when sharing their lives with children as they grow and develop. Renee is trained to present on the topics of Montessori Philosophy, Child Development, Classroom Leadership, Parent Involvement, Observation Skills, School Administration, Practical Life, Sensorial, Math, Language, and the Cultural subjects. Renee and other MHTEC staff members help the adult see the world through the eyes of the child. They realize the tremendous impact teachers - or guides, in Montessori language - have on the life and future development of the child, and even the world. Renee believes each individual must be respected for their own level of knowledge and the openness to expand this through professional development. A Montessorian does not have information that is different from the traditional Early Childhood practitioner, but is trained to share and apply information in a different way. Renee is available to provide individualized consultation and in-service training to an entire school or groups within a school; individuals interested in more extensive Montessori training and/or certification are invited to attend classes at MHTEC. Individuals who train at MHTEC find a caring and peaceful atmosphere within a professional environment; an ?ideal? demonstration room is available for hands-on experience with the beautiful and timeless Montessori materials.
